“Black Girl Therapy” comes to NYC
Tre Floyd and his Trey Floyd Production Company put on their first show in New York City. The cast of “Black Girl Therapy” came to town and performed two sold-out shows (on Easter Weekend, no less!)
Even though this show is definitely for grown folks, it took me back to my childhood seeing Black theatre, church plays, and watching the OG Tyler Perry dvds (and bootlegs!) There were black women as far as the eye could see; we sang, we laughed, we loved. I won’t give it all away, but my favorite part was the subtle call for self-examination: how can you develop a love of self that connects you to your sisters? I’ll definitely be in the audience with my girl gang when the team comes back to NYC to do “Black Couples Therapy” in September. If you missed the play (or you want to come to the sequel prepared), you can purchase a copy of Black Girl Therapy – The Book on Tre’s website.
