Hell’s Kitchen
I’d pay good money to hide the evidence that I was ever seventeen, but Alicia Keys is betting that you’ll want to see a younger version of her that’s painfully raw in all of it’s hormone-fueled rebellion. Like the show, adolescence is chaotic but by the end you’re grateful for the memories. Every (truly, every) performer was vocally brilliant and it’s a delight to hear reimagined songs from my prepubescence queued between songs that were new to me. I had my own fights with mom, blunders with boys, and frustrations over who I wanted to become; I needed this show more than I thought I would and I think you will, too. Thank god I made it out with stories, a few fading scars, and Alicia on the soundtrack.
