Jordans
They may not admit it, but anyone who lives alone talks to themselves: over wine or whiskey, in the kitchen, on the couch. It’s one of life’s simple pleasures but I’d be embarrassed if anyone ever saw me doing it. So, it was comforting to see the conversations I have with myself (about the best way to achieve anything in this world) being acted out on stage. In Act II, the show took a hard right and left comfort in the dust but there was even something familiar about that. Rage, the carnal tension between competing and collaborating, and of course – white workplace dynamics – it all triggered memories for me. Stories like these force you to face yourself: who are you fighting? and how bad do you want to be the best?
Jordans, written by Ife Olujobi and directed by Whitney White, is running at the Public through may 12.
