“Geometric Language” at Tanya Weddemire Gallery
After meeting Tanya and her team at the Affordable Art Fair earlier in the season, I was eager to visit their gallery in Sunset Park’s Industry City. Each of the artists featured in the collection entitled “Geometric Language” was in the house to field questions about their processes, inspirations, and whether they’d like to send their work to the moon. (You had to be there…) Though the title of the show may invoke visions of perfect shapes and tessellations, the works in the exhibition lean abstract. Hearing Anthony E. Boone describe the emotional foundation of “Life” and LeRone Wilson detail his approach to “Petah” helped me connect with what seemed at first to be only squiggles and lines. Overall, the visit was work the trek from Harlem and I’m sure I’ll be back to TWG before the season’s end.
