“Good Bones” Review (Ep 21)

Bad & Boujee & Ready to Displace You: Black-on-Black Gentrification in “Good Bones”

Let’s dig into “Good Bones,” currently running at the Public Theater! The show is written by James Ijames and directed by Saheem Ali – the same power duo from Pulitzer Prize-winning “Fat Ham” (reviewed in Episode 14.) The show stars Mamadou Athie, Khris Davis, Téa Guarino, and Susan Kelechi Watson and the short version is: black gentrifiers move to an up-and-coming neighborhood – and things get a little spooky. But, in a twist, it seems the house is not the only thing that’s haunted.

This video essay is a review of “Good Bones” written by James Ijames and directed by Saheem Ali. The Public Theater’s production of “Good Bones” began in fall 2024.
