After the opening night performance of the 2026 production of Nehprii Amenii’s HUMAN, I caught up with the creative team to discuss what sparked this story; collaborating on storytelling through puppetry, song, and dance; and how to choreograph movement when the whole show takes place underwater. Nehprii Amenii wrote and directed the show, Amparo “Chigui” Santiago took on choreography, and Jon Riddleberger joined as puppet director. HUMAN was performed at The Shed as part of their Open Call summer programming on July 10 and 11. The Shed’s Open Call programming is free to attend.
